Un artista que se llama Yinka Shonibare CBE ha presentado una obra que ha venido a llamar The African Library,<\/a>\u00a0una serie de estanter\u00edas donde ha colocado miles de libros forrados de tela encerada de estampados kitenge. Para cualquiera, el kitenge es la t\u00edpica tela africana, porque lo es, es muy distintiva, claro. Sin embargo, estas telas siempre<\/em> se han fabricado en Holanda, e incluso se siguen produciendo all\u00ed hoy en d\u00eda, distribuy\u00e9ndose ampliamente por todo \u00c1frica occidental.<\/p>\n

En los lomos de los libros est\u00e1n escritos los nombres de\u00a0Kwame Nkrumah, Nelson Mandela, Patrice Lumumba, Amilcar Cabral, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Taytu Betul and Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, etc.\u00a0En la p\u00e1gina web de la obra o instalaci\u00f3n presentan el listado completo de elegidos.<\/p>\n

Nacido el 4 de junio de 1952 en Rusape, Rodesia del Sur, actualmente Zimbabue – Fallecido el 18 de agosto de 1987 en Harare, Zimbabue. Fue un escritor prol\u00edfico que ha sido comparado con James Joyce y Henry Miller. Fue el primer y \u00fanico africano que gan\u00f3 el Premio Guardian de Ficci\u00f3n. Lo de CBE significa British Order of Chivalry, The Most Outstanding Order of the British Empire, lo cual es fascinante puesto que su obra art\u00edstica est\u00e1 dedicada a criticar el colonialismo. Pero a nadie le amarga una distinci\u00f3n y la Reina m\u00e1s longeva, a estas alturas, est\u00e1 beyond<\/em>… En el mundo del arte, Shonibare est\u00e1 reconocid\u00edsimo y los principales museos contempor\u00e1neos del mundo han adquirido sus obras, en las que utiliza profusamente los citados estampados kitenge, btw.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
